The Four Seasons sustainability program is centered around two pillars: people and planet.
With the aim of reducing the resort´s negative environmental impact; bicycles are available for guest use as well as charging stations for golf carts, linens and towels are replaced every third day, salt technology is used in resort pools to replace chemicals, and eco-certified cleaning products are used. Plant-based menus are offered at the restaurants, where produce also includes locally bought ingredients and responsibly sourced seafood.
Reduction operations include energy-efficient building systems, water-efficient landscaping and an on-site water treatment plant for reuse. Recycling, food waste, and organic waste systems are in place, and instead of soap and toiletries going to waste, they are recycled and donated through the Punta Mita-based non-profit organization, PEACE.
A local biodiversity support program is in place to protect the Hawksbill Turtle, in partnership with Red Tortuguera, and local biologists advise the resort on how to manage insects and pests without damaging the ecosystem. Employees volunteer for beach clean-up days to protect marine life from plastic pollution.
With a focus on the communities around the hotel, the work of local artists and artisans is featured throughout the resort and a partnership has been set up with the Huichol Culture Conservation Program to teach guests about the local Huichol Indigenous people through art exhibits, history workshops and classes. Guests have the opportunity to learn about authentic Mexican culture through Spanish classes, tequila tastings and Catrina workshops.
