Luxury with a Maya soul, Hacienda Chichen Resort, which is just a stone’s throw from the Chichen Itzá Archeological Zone in the Yucatan Peninsula.
An offering to the earth is placed at the entrance to the hotel in a genuine expression of thanks from the mainly Maya staff.
The hotel works hard to be as sustainable as possible, working from the Maya belief that you must give back to earth if you take from it. With that in mind, the swimming pool is ecologically filtered, the rooms have neither televisions nor telephones and the hotel has its own herb and vegetable garden, growing much of the food served there.
The rooms, which are set among a number of external cottages, are all uniquely decorated with interesting headboards and colorful Mexican cushions. The carved wood furniture is in keeping with the traditional style of the building and many have exposed wood beamed ceilings.
The Spa, run by Maya therapists offers traditional Maya healings and rituals as well as other more commonplace therapies. There are also external Maya rituals performed by the staff, which guests are welcome to join.
