(PUERTO VALLARTA, MEXICO, Nov. 16, 2022)  Luxury in-country travel company Journey Mexico is offering its clients a stay at some of Mexico´s newest hotels opened in 2022, as well as revealing the latest travel experiences it’s been developing in destinations across the country. The acclaimed travel company also shares advice on what to book now and its sustainability goals.

On Mexico´s Pacific coastlines, partnerships with new hotels include Rancho Pescadero in Baja California Sur, Susurros del Corazón near Punta Mita, and Habita´s Hotel Terrestre near Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca. In Mexico City, Journey Mexico now offers travelers Mondrian Condesa and Casa Polanco. The company has begun to work with a number of new hotels in the south of the country, located throughout the Riviera Maya and Yucatán state. This includes Nômade on Holbox Island, the Waldorf Astoria Cancún, Casa Chablé in the Sian Ka´an Biosphere, the Conrad Tulum, Habitas Bacalar, Cigno in Mérida center, and Hacienda Xcanatun by Angsana on the northern periphery of Mérida city.

Journey Mexico´s latest experiences explore the country´s gastronomy, culture, and indigenous history.

In Mexico City, clients can take a cooking class at a professional chef´s city apartment in the Polanco neighborhood or opt for a private dinner while learning about the origins and cultural relevance of each course. In the southern suburb of Coyoacán, travelers can enjoy a tasting of regional spirits like mezcal and sotol, accompanied by plates using traditional Mexican ingredients, or get inside the creative universe of Frida Kahlo studying the painter´s artwork and personal items at her lifelong home.

While in the south of the city, Journey Mexico offers its travelers an educational trip to the Xochimilco waterways to visit floating gardens, or chinampas, and learn about this innovative Mesoamerican agricultural technique. One of the chinampas also hosts a family-run axolotl farm, where guests can observe and learn about the rare endemic amphibians. In another opportunity, clients will be able to explore Mexico City´s classic and sought-after neighborhoods with ease on electric bikes, visiting the historic center, Roma, Condesa, and Polanco.

A couple of hours drive east of Mexico City in Puebla, clients are given the chance to get behind-the-scenes of one of the region´s most emblematic dishes, Mole Poblano, with a cooking demonstration and dinner by a private chef paired with a wine selection. To continue the exploration of inland Mexico, clients can learn about the art of the winemaking near San Miguel de Allende, exploring an organic vineyard and enjoying a curation of 6 tasting plates accompanied by a selection of signature wines.

Other new experiences by Journey Mexico include visits to generationally run tequila distilleries with private tastings in the namesake town, adventures to jungle waterfalls off-the-beaten-track in the state of Chiapas, goat handling and cheese workshops in Baja California Sur´s Cacachilas Mountains, and for pre-excursion bread and hot chocolate in Oaxaca City´s secret morning spots.

Journey Mexico offers intimate experiences of Day of the Dead´s cultural heritage. On a specially created 4-day itinerary in Chiapas, clients can make their own remembrance altar in San Cristóbal de las Casas and visit cemeteries where the Tzotzil Mayan communities hold their annual festivities. In the Yucatán, guests can get involved with local customs, known as Hanal Pixan, learning about altars in a family home and creating a quintessential recipe for the occasion, ´Mucbipollo´. The large tamale made with corn dough is stuffed with fresh vegetables, herbs, and meat or poultry, before being wrapped in banana leaves and cooked in a pre-Hispanic pit oven in the ground called a ´pib´.

Near Guadalajara, travelers have the opportunity to take a boat ride across Lake Chapala to learn about the history and pre-Columbian culture of Mezcala Island, before visiting the lakeside villages of Chapala and Ajijic. Another of the in-country travel company´s new activities takes clients to see the circular step-pyramids of Guachimontones archaeological zone in Jalisco state. Near the site, guests will enjoy a tasting of ancient beverages like pulque and tejuino, and participate in an artisan workshop to make pre-Hispanic instruments. In Yucatán state in southern Mexico, the company takes travelers for an early morning visit to Chichen Itza to avoid the crowds, before spending the afternoon at a private cenote set in the grounds of a historic ranch. Cenotes are natural freshwater pools with rock formations where visitors can swim and relax.

Journey Mexico recommends making reservations for 2023 as early as possible, particularly for villa stays in the week before New Year´s Eve and around the Day of the Dead celebrations on November 1st and 2nd, as accommodation gets booked up well in advance. This is the same for trips to witness the Monarch butterfly migration in Michoacán from late-November to late-March, where there is limited availability for the travel company´s favored hotel, Rancho San Cayetano. UK clients are advised to arrange travel over October half term ahead of time.

One of Journey Mexico´s current goals is to upgrade the sustainability of their operations in order to certify as a B Company. They believe that business should have a positive impact both environmentally and socially at every level of performance.
