San Miguel de Allende in Guanajuato continues to top traveler’s lists! Most recently, CondĂ© Nast Traveler has recognized San Miguel Allende in the magazine’s iconic Readers’ Choice Awards.
San Miguel de Allende took 5th place on Condé Nast Traveler’s 2016 “The Best Cities in the World” List!
San Miguel Allende has made the list several times over the past few years, even grabbing the number one spot in 2013. CNTÂ explains why San Miguel Allende deserved such an acknowledgement:
“Many consider colonial-era San Miguel de Allende one of Mexico’s prettiest cities, and it’s no wonder. Here, you’ll find leafy courtyards, narrow cobblestone streets, and a historic town center from which the Gothic Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel’s pink towers rise high above the main plaza, El JardĂn. Located 165 miles northeast of Mexico City in the country’s hilly central highlands, San Miguel has no international airport, but is worth the trek: In 2008 UNESCO recognized San Miguel de Allende and neighboring Sanctuary of Jesus de Atotonilco as World Heritage of Humanity sites.”
In addition to 5th place on the World’s Best Cities List, the boutique Hotel Matilda, located right in the center of San Miguel Allende, was also voted by readers as an outstanding place within the world.
Hotel Matilda took 1st place on CondĂ© Nast Traveler’s 2016 “Top Hotels in Mexico” List and 3rd place overall on “The 50 Best Hotels in the World“!
CNT writes, “Spare and minimalist, this mod fortress is a perfect foil for the colonial grandeur of its neighbors. Check out the hotel’s custom black-and-white prints—an extension of its subdued color scheme—by local photographer Eduardo Zaylan, and the fresh, inventive dishes at Moxi Restaurant (hello, creamy wild mushroom risotto with guajillo and red onion).”
Bruce James, Director of Hotel Matilda, shared that since the opening of Hotel Matilda in 2010, it was always a goal to create a dynamic guest experience unlike any other in Mexico. He shares, “We turned up the volume, not just in San Miguel but in the Mexican hotel scene by evolving Hotel Matilda into a lively cultural and culinary hub celebrated for immersing guests in an exciting and innovative contemporary lifestyle.” Congratulations Hotel Matilda!
More than 300,000 travelers took part in the 29th annual Readers’ Choice Awards survey—nearly doubling last year’s participation—submitting millions of ratings to help create the list of winning favorites.
